World’s Top Ten Expensive Sites Ever Sold

Domain Names buying and selling has been there ever since the internet was discovered and we all know that one can make some good hard cash by selling key domain names.

Business.com held the top place for being the most expensive domain name sold when it was sold in 1999 at $7.5 million dollars. This retained the top slot until 2006 when Gary Kremen, founder of Match.com sold his adult entertainment site – Sex.com for a whopping $14 million.

The domain names demand was at it’s peak during the dotcom period, but never the less, every now and then we hear about domains sold for huge amounts making the news. There will always be a continuous demand for “hot” domains and registering names just for the heck of it has become a trend these days, hoping to make a quick buck in future.

In 2009, the record was again broke by the sell of Insure.com for $16million purchased by an Internet marketing firm – Quinstreet.

Coming to the most expensive blog ever sold in history, how can we forget the multimillion dollar purchase by BankRate, a financial institution. According to the figures released to the public, the company paid 12.4 million dollars for the financial blog – Bankaholic.com, created and owned by Mr.Johns Wu. The blog was created using WordPress and has several financial tools and posts on gift card promotions and present condition of the financial economy.
