Five Tips for Safe Driving

Barbie And Barbie's Boyfrend Use The Seat Belt

You may think that you’re the best driver on the road but, like with everything else in life, there’s always room for improvement. No matter how experienced you are, there are ways that you can become a better driver. Here are five tips for safe driving that you may not be following:

1.Keep Loose Objects Secured

You should never have objects sliding around loose in your vehicle. This includes shopping bags, purses and even pets. Anything that is in the main compartment of your vehicle should be securely fastened to the seat or placed in a carrying box that fits on the floor. Loose objects in the car can quickly turn into life-threatening projectiles if you are involved in an accident. Loose objects are also more likely to slide under your control pedals, effectively causing an accident.

2.Be Courteous to Those Sharing the Road

A little bit of courtesy goes a long way in life and this includes your behavior in the car. If someone is waiting to pull out of a parking lot into a crowded street, and you have the ability, slow down and let them pull out in front of you. If someone next to you is trying to change lanes on the highway and you have room, let them change in front of you. There’s no reason not to be a courteous driver; try it the next time you start your engine.

3.Keep Your Car Clean

You may not realize it, but the cleaner your car is, the less likely you are to be involved in an accident. The cleaner that you keep your car, both inside and out, the less your chances for a collision. By keeping your windows free and clear of debris, you’re better able to see the road ahead of and behind you, as well as the vehicles to your left and right. The cleaner the interior of your car, the less likely you are to be distracted by moving items.

4.Drive Happy

Avoid driving when you are in an agitated state. When you are angry, excited or otherwise emotional, you’re more likely to be distracted from the task of driving. If you can’t wait until you’re in a better mood to drive, at least try to calm yourself down before you get behind the wheel. When you’re in your car, play relaxing music, pop in an audio book or keep the radio off altogether. Do whatever it is that you need to do to get yourself in a better frame of mind.

5.Click It

This may seem like common sense, but always make sure that your seat belt is fastened immediately after starting your engine. Did you know that most people get into an accident within ten miles of their home? This is because, on a daily basis, people make short trips to and from school, the store and to work, far more often than they make long commutes. Many people neglect to wear their seat belt on these short trips, thinking that they’re only driving down the road; what could happen? Your seat belt should be fastened as a matter of course, regardless of how far you’ll be driving.

As a driver, it is your responsibility to make sure that yourself, your passengers and others on the road are as safe as possible. By following safe driving tips, you can be sure that you are making it possible for everyone to get where they are going injury-free.

  • Great tips Praveen. I would like to add, one should never use their cellphone while driving as it can be really disastrous. I have seen many people doing that. Life is precious and one should not take it for granted.
