Expecting a baby is the most beautiful and exciting period in the life of every parent. Especially when the due time comes closer and every mother-to-be gets the overwhelming desire and urge to organize and get the home ready for the baby. This instinct is known as nesting and one of the best ways to fulfill it is by designing and decorating your baby’s nursery. I hope this article on some of the best ways to decorate your nursery will help you plan your needs and enjoy the journey.
At first, designing a nursery may seem daunting and overwhelming but it doesn’t have to be. It can be exciting and fun choosing different décor and design for your baby’s first room.
Before you decide to start setting up a nursery take a look at these couple of best ways to decorate your nursery. They may be useful! Before you go down this article, do not forget to check out some of the Hot Baby Items you may need to make your baby comfortable and enjoy the ride with you.
Inspiration for your baby nursery
Start with planning. This may seem like a logical starting point and it may even seem ridiculous mentioning it, but it’s still an important step in the decorating process.
You have probably been thinking about this a lot lately and you may even have an idea what you want this room to look like. However, when we have many ideas on our minds we tend to get distracted and make a lot of mistakes along the way.
On the other hand, some have problems coming up with anything and in this case, and in pretty much any case, your best ally is Pinterest.
Pinterest is the place to go to when you have problems with the lack of ideas as well as when you have a plethora of design ideas. This is the place where you can get inspiration and organize all your ideas.
Style
Doing a bit of research and browsing can help you choose the style or several styles that you really like. It’s usually recommended to stick with one concept to create a cohesive design. However, this isn’t necessary, you can choose different things from different styles if that appeals to you.

There is no right or wrong when doing this kind of thing. It ultimately comes down to what you like or dislike.
Color palette
Parents usually base the color palette on the gender of their child. Others, those who prefer not to know the sex of their baby, will opt for a gender-neutral palette.
Choosing the right color palette may seem easy enough, but it’s not really. Once you come to this step, you’ll see how overwhelming choosing a color scheme is. There are so many options and combos that you can go with – what should you do?!
First of all, don’t panic and don’t go buying paint colors without being sure. Do your research, then sleep on it. If in the morning you’re still happy with what you decided you can move on to purchasing the colors.
It’s important to know that the painting of the nursery should be done well before the baby comes home and with safe paint brands, too!
Textiles and prints
It’s important to reiterate that you should do a lot of research before committing to anything. The same goes for choosing textiles and prints.
Search the web and stores to find beddings, curtains, rugs that you like, only then consider the overall color palette of the nursery. There’s nothing worse than clashing colors and prints and textiles. You can always repaint the room, but why waste your time and money when you don’t need to. Just do the research first!
Furniture that suits your nursery
Nursery furniture plays an important role as well and it shouldn’t be disregarded easily. If you want the nursery to be cohesive and balanced then you know that all the pieces should complement each other – from color palettes, textiles, and patterns to furniture.

Find the furniture that you really like. The crib should be the biggest investment piece in the nursery. You should make sure that the crib is safe and functional. If you’re going to invest in it – make sure it can be converted to a toddler or even full-sized bed, this way you will get the best bang for the buck!
Then choose the functional changing table, comfortable rocking chair and other furniture pieces that may be useful in a nursery. Keep in mind that all this furniture can be reused for baby no. 2!
Mood board
Once you have narrowed down all the things that you like, the style that you want to go with, colors and textiles, furniture even, you can move on to creating a mood board.
A mood board is a collage or a visual presentation of all the things that you like and that you would like to incorporate in the nursery. Everything from colors, textures, patterns, prints, furniture images and so on, can be included in the mood board.

Once you have everything in front of you, you can add and remove things that you either like or don’t.
The mood board is a useful tool that will spare from making potential mistakes. So, our warmest recommendation is not to skip this step.
Accent wall and decor
Every room should have a focal point and the same goes for the nursery. In most cases, this focal point is the accent wall.

An accent wall is one wall in the room that is different from all the others. It is usually a wall with different color, or it features a fun, colorful wallpaper pattern. It can even feature a nice mural! You can also invest in some unique baby nursery wall art that will make this wall pop up! This is also the wall that you’ll place the crib against so it should be eye-catching.
Once you have everything installed and worked out, you can start decorating. Start adding toys and wall art, make sure everything is on display.
Storage
This may go without saying, but every nursery needs enough storage. Place where you’ll put away all the clothes, blankets, bottles and diapers. Have in mind that you’ll need to have a place for all the toys your kid will have.
You can be creative when it comes to storage, you can install built-in furniture or you can purchase different children’s storage units, the options are endless really. Why Storage is even in this list of best ways to decorate your nursery is because I have found it hard to segregate the real necessities you need quick access to versus those that can stay in a closet somewhere. Plan accordingly.
Baby proofing
And last but not least, is making sure that the nursery is babyproof. This implies covering all the outlets, making sure that all the cords are out of the way, installing drawer lockers and many other baby-proof items.
Make sure all the hazardous items are out of the way and that your child won’t be able to get to them. It’s very important to start doing this on time and to always be one step ahead of your child. Be sure to have all the room covered and that everything is babyproof!
In the end, decorating and organizing your baby’s nursery should be one of the best experiences in your life. Yes, it may get overwhelming at first, but once you start you’ll see how fun and exciting it can be!
I hope you liked this write-up on some of the best ways to decorate your nursery. Play around with ideas, don’t be in a hurry to commit. Start with several options and then work towards narrowing them down slowly. Enjoy the process and also don’t be afraid of making mistakes.
The whole point of designing and decorating this room is to make your baby welcome and comfortable in it. And ultimately it all comes down to that – making your baby safe and comfortable in their very first room!

I agree that the crib is the biggest investment piece, that’s why we decided on the crib first, and then got furniture to match afterwards. We have a crib that converts into a bed, but our boy is getting taller and taller and I’m not sure how long it will last!!
