Recently I started looking into this new website – Pinterest and was not sure how all those images made any sense and why people are flocking to this website like crazy. Anyway, I requested for a profile to be created and forgot all about it until today.
I got a mail from them saying that my request has been accepted and I can go ahead and start “Pinning My Interests“. Hesitantly I created my profile, without knowing what to do with it, started searching for friends and colleagues, but couldnt find any. However, I thought I will see how I can use this for my blogging purposes.
I created a new Board called “Blogs Worth Reading” and wasnt sure how to Pin a blog since all it said was Pin your images. First things first, I add the ‘Pin It’ button to my Chrome bookmarks tab and all I had to do was browse any blog and click on the button. It detects all the images in the page and allows to me add them or rather PIN them to my profile. The one thing of interest to me was that it also adds the blog URL to the image. Well, that was when I gave it some more thought and started pinning more and more pages.
Well, all that sounds good, but how to promote my blog using this tool? Not to worry, all you need to do is Browse to your profile on Pinterest and select the Pin It Button option:
Scroll down to the place where it allows you to Add a Follow Button to your website. Pick up the html code and add to a relevant part of your website.
You can see that I have added the button to my sidebar on the home page of DailyMorningCoffee . This will allow other readers to browse your profile and follow you just like any other social networking tool(FaceBook & Twitter).
Next task will be to add the PinIt button to your posts. This is similar to the Tweet button or the Like button that you have already configured where readers can spread a word about your post if they like it. See the Pin It Button for Website section to configure your button and copy the html code.
So what are you waiting for, create your profile and start spreading the word about it. You can find me on Pinterest here and do follow me and let us start building our followers list –
Do you already have a Pinterest Profile? Share it with us by leaving a comment below. Thanks for reading.

Looks like it might be worthwhile. I requested to join and got put on the waiting list:
“Thanks for joining the Pinterest waiting list. We’ll be sure to send you an invite soon.” Since I collect bookmarks like crazy, this might be a good outlet for sharing some of that information. So far, I see a lot of material stuff that doesn’t interest me, but pinning blogs has potential. This doesn’t seem like it’s attracting “WordPress code pinnings” though.
Leora – Yes, they take quite a while to approve your request, mine took almost 2 weeks.
I am sure you will love this as I have seen you experiment with pictures and images on your website. Let me know how it goes.
Hi Praveen,
Thanks for visiting my blog and here am I paying a visit to yours as well 🙂
Seems like something new worth trying. I have heard about it but never really felt the need to read or learn more about it, as with G+, Facebook, Twitter and all the other social networks- my hands surely are full!
I do wonder how and what more does it have to offer, if we do join it? Though after reading your review it does seem like something worth giving a look into.
Thanks for sharing 🙂
Harleena – Welcome to DMC and thanks for leaving your thoughts behind.
I am sure you have your hands full with all the other networking tools you use. This seems very different and can also be used for personal stuff like for kids and family.
The nature of articles you write will surely go well with such a tool, I think you should really give it a try. If you visit my profile which I just started a couple of days back, it might give you a rough idea on how one can think of using the tool. (I still have to explore more though)
Praveen,
I did a post on Pinterest a while ago. I thought that it was a great site and love using it .
I like it because it is easy to see what you have pinned with the pictures unlike other bookmarking sites that I seem to lose allot of stuff in.
I still using my bookmarks but I also use Pinterest.
My Pinterest user name is deeannrice.
Great post

Thanks for visiting and leaving your comment. I agree that Pinterest is a very interesting tool and is very useful for people and bloggers who are more into images and photography I feel.
Thanks for the follow and I did find your profile and followed you back.
Here is a tip for Pinterest:
The Pinterest bookmarklet or Pin it button is compatible with several web browsers. This means that you can use it on your computer and even your iPad and iPhone.
