Alex Clare: You know that song you keep hearing during that computer commercial that makes you wonder just who this guy is? Yeah that’s this guy. Alex Clare is a popular music man across the pond, but thanks to his hit ‘Too Close’ he has gained more notary in the States. Clare’s voice has a hint of blues and enough raspy edge to make any music lover swoon. Most of his songs are backed with an interesting dub like sound or clear beat. Very catchy and fresh.Best known song: Too Close. Song you should know: I Love You.

Milo Greene: Very new and perfectly put together, the group Milo Greene delivers a beautiful sound on every track. Four of the five members not only sing but play instruments as they harmonize creating a striking blend of woodsy and punch forming a soothing aftertaste for listeners. They have recently appeared on Conan O’Brien’s late night talk show and proved to be every bit talented live. It’s very possible you may fall in love. Best known song: 1957. Song you should know: Son My Son.

Marina and The Diamonds:  Welsh singer and songwriter Marina Diamandis is about to hit it big and soon. She is very quirky with her song titles and lyrics with songs like ‘Bubblegum Bitch’ and ‘How to be a heartbreaker’ leaving you with wanting more. Marina has a deep and soulful soothing voice, pair that with piano and keyboards, you have yourself a star. Marina and The Diamonds music somewhat resembles the likings and combination of Lily Allen and Gwen Stefani. Best known song: Primadonna Song you should know: Lies.

First Aid Kit: If you are into some folk, check out the Swedish duo and sister songwriters and singers, First Aid Kit. They love the tambourine, the guitar and harmonizing. The twang in their voices are just the right amount and their songs are powerful but yet sweet. It’s hard not to compare them to the likes of Fleet Foxes and She & Him. This is the kind of music you would hear during a goodbye in an indie film. It’s haunting. Best known song: Emmylou. Song you should know: The Lions Roar.

Larry G (EE): A tricky name to figure out and write but don’t let that deter you from this blues man from Texas. Talk about wanting to shake your bum! At first glance, one may think its Bruno Mars, but don’t let that fool you, this guy is outstanding and ridiculously fun to watch because he is backed with a vibrant chorus and horn section. Probably the least known on this list but don’t be surprised if overnight he pops up on your radio. Check him out and support the smaller artists! Best known song: Yo Mama. Song you should know: Camera Phone.

  • I am not a huge music fan. I don’t know who the producer was for “Stairway to Heaven”. I am a casual listener, who mostly lives in the past with the songs of my youth.

Last week I discovered Rodriguez and the soundtrack from “Searching for Sugar Man”. The music is genius, the story is moving in a way that is difficult to describe in a comment.

When I find something new, it makes me want to look around for more of the good stuff. This post came at a good time, because when I get home tonight, I’m going to check out some of these artists and see if they make my foot tap and soul stir.

If they do, I’ll pop back in and let you know…or maybe I’ll be too busy dancing. 🙂
