How Do I Place Ads on my site

To continue with setting up your professional blog or website, I want to provide some basics of how to place Ads on your site and which are the programs that you can sign-up for these marketing activities.

Now that you have selected your domain, finalized a niche, published your site and added some initial content, your website is up and running and you have started getting regular visitors asking for more. So how about getting some extra income in the process? It is time to start monetizing your site and getting returns for your effort.

Redesign your WordPress Theme

In my previous blog, I gave some basics of CSS tags and styles, now I would like to concentrate on the initial clean-ups you would need to perform on any downloaded WordPress Themes.

CleanUp, CleanUp, CleanUp – The first and foremost step will be to remove unwanted stuff promoting and advertising the theme designer and his websites. The header will have stuff like ‘WordPress Theme Designed by XXXX’ or ‘Powered by XXXX’, you need to remove these and make your header more impressive and relevant to the content of your website or blog.

The 2nd step of Clean-Up will be to visit the footer section and provide your CopyRight or related stuff in the footer.php file. Usually you will find only one footer file in most of the WordPress themes that are available.

Basics of CSS

There are many a times, when you download a free WordPress theme and ended up customizing it to such an extent that it doesnt resemble the downloaded theme anymore. This was the case for me as well when I tried my initial few themes. Even for my current theme (Elements of SEO), I did a lot of changes from the way it was initially downloaded to what it is today. There are several tags and classes that you will need to get familiar with to achieve what you visualize, of course a lot of trial and error does happen, but it will be really unnerving if you mess up the whole theme and have to revert back to the original. This is the reason why I thought I should put in some basics of CSS and HTML changes that might help you in re-designing your theme template. Feel free to add more by providing your feedback.

How To Be Awesome on Twitter

The past two days, I spent more time on promoting my website to my circle of friends and family. I created a FaceBook Fan Page and also updated my website URL on all of my networking sites. While I am not sure how many of my friends would really be interested in “liking” my page or subscribing to my feed, I will keep blogging my heart out here no matter what.

Being on twitter, I was trying to ReDesign my twitter background, and accidentally stumbled upon the below presentation made by Marta Majewska, Vice President, Digital & Social Media Strategist at Porter Novelli. I immediately felt like sharing this on my website. The twitter mantra is as simple as ->

TwentyFeet – Social Media Monitoring

I was browsing around in some of the tech-forums and I came across this interesting Web Application called Twenty-Feet. Going through the features, I found I had to share this on my blog.

Ever wondered why today you have only 124 friends on FaceBook compared to 127 yesterday? Did you spend time browsing through your friends list to see whom you lost? You dont have to anymore, because this web tool does exactly that. It tells you who are those friends who be-friended you on FaceBook.

Mastering YouTube

With the YouTube Statistics released lately, you would be amazed that more than 35 hours of video content is uploaded every single minute and also more video is uploaded to YouTube in 60 days than the 3 major US networks created in 60 years!!! I would say without a second thought that YouTube has become one of the most popular search engines on the Internet today.

Browsing more on the various search options provided by YouTube, I realized that there are many features which makes your search easy and interesting. I thought I should share this information with anyone interested.

With the advent of technology and the availability of numerous Content Management Systems(CMS), it is quite easy these days to create a website or a blog and get it up and running in no time. But then, some wonder, why is my website not being indexed, what is SEO, how to create my site-map, how to take a backup, what are the useful plug-ins(out of the thousands available), how to avoid spam, etc. I thought I will share my experience and views as and when I progress with this website of mine. Hope some of you will find it useful.

My Top 5 WordPress Plugins

Just a week into my blogging and I am in love with WordPress and how easy and convenient a tool it offers to all us first-time bloggers. There is a long way to go and explore the various database parameters and tables involved, but I wanted to share my first few experiences about creating and using some of the plugins. So here goes….

My Top 5 Plugins installed on this site:

1. WordPress DB Backup – I am pretty certain that a blogger’s life would be miserable except for this useful backup utility. On my very 2nd day, i downloaded a plugin for comments/feedback, and immediately my website crashed. I was not able to logon to my WP account either and the only way left was to contact my hosting provider. He said, you need to restore from your ‘backup’. Well, that is how I actually used the Backup that I had taken a few hours back when I first installed this plugin. I think enough said now, just install this and configure a daily backup. I would also say, it is always better to send a copy of the backup file to your personal email account.
