I was a huge fan of AngryBirds when it first hit the Apple Store and was immediately fascinated by the creativity and thought put into the game. Then again, I was quite overwhelmed when the same game was available on the tablet, what a huge difference in the gaming experience!!!
Now Disney has come up with AppMates which are Mobile Application Toys that turns your iPAD tablet into an Interactive PlayMat. I think this is completely out of ordinary and will soon become a hot thing in the games market.
The AppMates and iPAD blend together to create a new gaming experience. The AppMates are miniature toys with special sensors mounted on the bottom that are recognized as unique footprint by an App with no cable or Bluetooth connectivity required. For the initial release, Disney has come up with Disney Pixar Cars 2 miniature toys and a free Cars2 AppMates app available in iTunes store. Those sensors identify each and every character of the Cars series, so it will know which toy is McQueen and which one is Tow Mater even if you dont. All you need to do is gently press the toy onto your iPad and immediately it will recognize the character and you will also hear animated voices resembling the car chosen. The toys come in set of 2 for $20 and of course as mentioned earlier, the App is free to download.
Cars 2 Appmates features include:
Exploration – Drive around the world of Radiator Springs to discover landscapes and hidden secrets by simply placing the Carstoy character on the screen and turning it in any direction. Drive through mud and up ramps, visit friends at Flo’s V8 Café or check out your Car’s reflection, showing off your latest gear and gadgets.
Directed Game Play – Perform missions unique to each character. Completed missions – like helping bring a tow hook back to Mater – gain hubcaps, the virtual currency. Collect enough hubcaps to personalize each car with special features like a unique horn sound, customized tire tracks, and cool gear like a rocket launcher or spy vision goggles.
Racing – Rev up the action by racing against World Grand Prix opponents and your Radiator Springs friends. Five racetracks are available at launch. Race around Willy’s Butte, jump off Carburetor Mesa and roar through downtown Radiator Springs earning hubcaps in day or night races.
